Santo J. Cerminaro
HM2 (FMF) Santo J. Cerminaro was born with an unyielding commitment to service and duty, qualities that led him to join the United States Navy in 2018. He graduated from boot camp in September of that year, ready to embark on a career that would see him serve alongside the U.S. Marine Corps. His first assignment was with the Naval Medical Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) in Beaufort, South Carolina, where he was attached to a Naval Security Force Detachment for six months. During this time, HM2 Cerminaro developed a strong foundation in military medicine, which would later define his career.
In 2021, he was attached to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, a unit with the fierce motto, “No shit.” His time with the battalion would prove to be both challenging and rewarding. While deployed to Southeast Asia for nine months, HM2 Cerminaro was a crucial part of the team that saved countless lives during intense operational situations. His medical skills, quick thinking, and composure under pressure earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow Marines, who called him “Doc” instead of his name.
Throughout his service, HM2 Cerminaro’s dedication and bravery were recognized with numerous decorations. He received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with a Gold Star, the Fleet Marine Force Ground Combat Pin, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Sea Service Medal, the Humanitarian Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Expert Rifle Medal, the Expert Pistol Medal, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation from the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
Sadly, during his deployment, HM2 Cerminaro was injured, and at the age of 23, he was medically retired from the Navy. Despite his retirement, he continued to embody the spirit of a Marine, never classifying himself as a sailor but as a part of the Marine Corps that he loved so dearly. His sense of duty never wavered.
A devout Orthodox Christian, Santo now volunteers at the VA and supports widows, the less fortunate, and those in need. As he continues his recovery, he often says, “If I can still walk, I can still help others.” He is also a Family man who spends time with his significant other, Mikayla Brown. His selflessness and dedication to others remain an inspiration to those who know him.
